When many people have a website created it is with the mindset that once it is finished, all you need to do is add the occasional blog post or picture and that is it. However, this is not the case. For a website to be truly functional, then it is necessary to frequently update it – but those updates and additions need to be the type of changes that generate leads.

Lead generation is a vital part of your website presence. After all, without leads, it is difficult to build a business. Remember that phrase, “it’s not what you know but who you know”? When it comes to building your business – especially through the web – it’s important to not just generate leads but for those leads to help your business grow.

However, determining what types of content generate leads is not always easy. So, to help you out here are some ideas collected from lead generation experts.

· Create diversity in your content. Know what type of services and consumption needs your customers have, and then be sure to offer those to them. Be sure you have content that speaks to each stage of the engagement process so you can take them from curious bystander to engaged participant as quickly as possible.

· Engage in frequent conversations with your sales team. Be sure that everyone knows what process, services, etc. you want to focus on, and then check in often for feedback.

· Minimize options whenever possible. The more overwhelming your products or service list is, the harder it can be for people to stay engaged.

· Have a call to action after every section. Don’t just assume they will look for the “Buy now” button at the bottom of the page. Make it easy to find.

· Create an engaging ebook. A 2014 B2B Content Marketing Benchmarks Report states that 34% ofmarketers are using ebooks in their marketing strategies. If an ebook is done properly, it will educate your leads, demonstrate your knowledge, and get them from your landing page to your website.

· Host a webinar. Webinars can be quite effective in drawing people in.

· Host a real-life event. Getting out in the community is a simple way to let people know who you are and what you have to offer.

· Create a video. An article cites a Cisco study that states that by 2017, video will account for 69% of all consumer internet traffic.

· Use templates and tools. Position your company as a go to resource by providing items such as calendars, checklists, templates, and toolkits.

· Write Whitepapers. Show thought leadership and share industry-specific data and insights.

· Create landing pages. Use engaging copy designed to draw people to your website.
