I was excited to attend the second annual Judson Women’s Leadership Conference with my 19-year-old daughter, Jessica, a college sophomore, earlier this month. While it was geared to college students and young professionals, there was great information shared by leading women business leaders on motivation, career advice and leadership. Speakers included Cheryl Bachelder, CEO, Popeye’s; Debbie Storey, executive vice president, Mobility Customer Service, AT&T Mobility; and Kat Cole, group president, Focus Brands, among dozens of others in sports, business, marketing and media that led breakout sessions.

The conference was created by Lauren Judson, who lost her parents in an airplane crash in 2010 while they were on their way to see her in a college golf championship. She wanted to come up with a way to promote her parents’ legacy of giving. She now serves as host of the JCI Foundation’s annual Judson Collegiate Legends Pro-Am Challenge and The Judson Women’s Leadership Conference.

From a PR point of view, I was particularly impressed with how the event was managed. The printed program included an insert with the conference’s Twitter, Facebook and hashtag, so attendees could tweet and follow conference sessions. They also encouraged attendees to download their conference app, which allowed you to tweet questions directly to the speakers, and included all the sessions and speaker bios.

If you have a daughter in college or just starting her career, I encourage you to have her attend next year. It’s become our mother-daughter annual event, and we love it!
